Here's the logic/science part: the "side" of the primary (measuring from the center tap to the primary plate and/or screen leads) that was IN PHASE with the secondary, will have a voltage in polarity with the secondary (they'll both be positive at the same time, and negative at the same time)- so the RELATIVE voltage between that screen tap, and the secondary "hot" (i.e, 8 ohm tap in this case) will be LOWER, than if the screen was out-of-phase (in that case, the voltages would be "pushing" and "pulling" against each other, making the voltage differential HIGHER than if they were in-phase).

I already had the secondary hooked up- I AC grounded the primary center tap to the ground terminal of the secondary (hooked the primary center tap to the power supply caps- they're grounded on their other ends!), and then back-fed about 7VAC (from the heater winding of a random power transformer I had handy) into the secondary, between the ground and 8 ohm taps. My guess, is that the blue wire on the Hammond would be the same as the blue wire on the Dynaco, which would make blue/yellow correspond to green, brown/yellow correspond to green/white, and brown correspond to blue/white.Īnyone have any specific knowledge on this? I can always just try it, but I'd like to try to avoid accidentally blowing up anything (test speaker, etc) by having it wired reverse polarity (and therefore probably causing positive feedback).Īctually, I figured it out. With the secondaries wired as specified normally, I'm trying to determine which polarity to wire up the primary of the Hammond transformer.

Here's the primary wiring colors for this transformer: I'm using a Hammond output transformer (6.6K) instead of the original Mk III transformer. I'm about to make the last connections on my modded Dynaco MK III chassis amps.
